1. In order to be registered with the
Society a horse or pony must possess the following characteristics:
a. Body coat colour: the colour of a newly minted gold
coin, or three shades lighter or darker.
NOTE: White markings and other discolouration's should not extend above
the line shown on the identification form diagram below. White markings caused by
injury or freeze-branding on the body shall not debar from registration.

b. Mane and tail: White, with not more than
fifteen percent dark or chestnut hairs in either.
c. Eyes: Dark brown, hazel or black iris, and both of the same colour.
d. Skin: Basically dark, the skin round the eyes and nose may be mouse
coloured, brown or black, except where the extension of a white facial
marking makes the skin pink.
2. The Register will be in two
sections:
a. Pedigree Section for animals with both parents registered with any
recognised stud book or register.
b. A register for animals where one or both of whose parents are
unregistered or unknown.
3. Animals for which application for
registration has been received will be inspected during the period 15th
May – 15th September inclusive in any year, following the year of
birth. NOTE: Owners wishing to exhibit unregistered animals at shows
prior to the permissible inspection period, must file registration
applications not later than the closing date of the show entries.
4. The breeder of an animal for the
purposes of registration is the bona fide owner of its dam at the time
of its birth.
5. No inspector shall accept for
registration:
a. Any animal of which he is, or has been, the owner.
b. Any animal of which he is the breeder.
c. Any animal sired by a stallion of which he is the owner or is in
charge.
d. Any animal in which he is financially interested, either directly, or
indirectly.
e. Any animal, the owner of which is related to him by blood or
marriage, including those cohabiting / living at same residence.
6. By affixing his signature to the
certificate of approval on the application for registration of any
animal the inspector shall be deemed to have complied with these
requirements.
7. Any person making application for
the registration of an animal with the Society shall be deemed to have
agreed to conform with the standing Rules for Registration. When
presented for inspection ponies must be clean and well handled and in
full coat i.e. not clipped out.
8. Transfer of ownership of a
registered animal must be notified to the Secretary, by the Vendor, who
shall, at the time of such notification return the Certificate of
Registration, together with the name and address of the new owner and
the appropriate fee. On completion of the necessary formalities the
certificate will be forwarded to the new owner by the Secretary.
9. Duplicate Certificate – In the
event of a Registration Certificate being lost, application may be made
to the Secretary for the issue of a duplicate certificate. Such
certificate will only be issued subject to the Council being satisfied
that the horse or pony for which such application is made is the animal
to which the original certificate referred. Such duplicate certificate
will be issued subject to a fee, plus any expenses incurred by the
Society, or any of it’s officials. In all cases the replacement
certificate will bear the word “duplicate”.
10. Any person may register a Prefix
with the Society. This he may use for all animals bred by him, subject
to acceptance by the Central Prefix Register. No person may change the
registered name of an animal.
11. For an animal already registered
in another recognised stud book or register to be acceptable for
registration with the Society, application for registration must be made
in the name registered in such stud book or register together with its
stud book or register reference; and that name will appear as the name
of the animal when registered with the Society both in the register and
on the animal’s BPS Registration Certificate. A photocopy of the
Studbook Certificate shall accompany the registration application form.
